– Allison Goldsberry Wynn Boston Harbor President Robert DeSalvio announced on Facebook yesterday that the Everett casino will open on June 24, 2019. According to DeSalvio, rooms will be available for booking a year before the casino opens. Wynn Resorts was awarded an official gaming license from the state to 'develop and construct an integrated resort' in Everett in September 2014. The Wynn Everett development was estimated to cost a total of $1.6 billion, with a projected 2018 opening, later pushed to mid-2019. The license met with mixed reactions from local politicians.

Wynn Resorts shows no signs of slowing down its worldwide expansion. As Wynn Palace in Macau, a $4.2 billion project, is set to open its doors Monday, the operator has set an opening month for its project in Everett, Massachusetts after a small setback earlier this summer.

  • Wynn put off furloughs after closing on March 15 in light of the coronavirus pandemic, paying the roughly 4,200 employees who work at the $2.6 billion Everett casino. The company spent $3 million a day, or nearly $220 million between mid-March and May, to continue paying its employees, the company said in a statement issued Monday.
  • The CEO of Wynn Resorts admitted Thursday that its anticipated opening of Encore Boston Harbor in Everett could be delayed 'a week or two' as the casino operator grapples with a record fine.

Wynn Resorts recently won an important case against the City of Somerville, Massachusetts that was filed in July. The case was brought against the construction of a new Wynn Resort on the Mystic River waterfront in Eastern MA. The City of Somerville was opposed to the Department of Environmental Protection issuing a waterfront development permit to Wynn Resorts. The case was ruled in favor of Wynn Resorts earlier this month.

Construction had been postponed through the hearing, but it started back up earlier this month after the ruling. Wynn Resorts have now announced the planned date for the opening of the new casino as June 2019, though it will be up to the DEP Commissioner, Martin Suuberg, to make the ultimate decision on whether or not Wynn Boston Harbor – earlier referred to as Wynn Everett – will be allowed to open its doors.

Steve Wynn, the Founder and Chief of Wynn Resorts, announced the name change from Wynn Everett to Wynn Boston Harbor in March, but the logo and website have yet to be updated.

The President of Wynn Boston Harbor, Robert DeSalvio, remains hopeful. He was quoted as saying, “For the first time, today I say before the Gaming Commission, that casino construction is under way.”
